When Everything Feels Too Full, Too Fast
You ever walk into your house, look around and just feel... overwhelmed? Too many papers. Too many clothes. Too much noise.
Now pause and look inward.
Does your mind feel the same?
Too many thoughts. Too many roles. Too many expectations pressing in from all sides.
That’s not just mess - that’s a sign.
It’s time to spring clean your life.
And no, this isn’t about rearranging furniture or wiping down shelves (though that can help too). We’re talking about the inner clutter, the outdated habits, toxic attachments, emotional baggage and unspoken grief that quietly shape how we move through the world.
In Caribbean households, many of us grew up with that annual deep clean - before Easter, before school reopened, before Divali or before Christmas. We pulled everything out, aired things out in the sun and made space for fresh energy to circulate.
What if we applied that same wisdom to our lives?
Let’s explore how to do a soulful, intentional spring cleaning, not just in your space, but in your spirit.
Clear the Cobwebs: Emotional and Mental Decluttering
Start here. We live in an era of constant input, news cycles, social media, family expectations, cultural pressure. Even in paradise, peace can feel hard to find.
But emotional and mental clutter is real. And if you don’t clear it, it piles up, just like junk in the back of the closet.
Mental clutter might sound like:
“I should be further by now.”
“What if I fail?”
“Everybody else seems to have it together.”
Emotional clutter might show up as:
Resentments from unresolved conversations
Grief you’ve buried to “stay strong”
Guilt over rest, pleasure, or saying no
Try this: Grab a notebook and free-write on this question - “What have I been carrying that I never chose to hold?”
Let it flow. No editing. No judgment. Just empty it out.
Then ask: What can I lovingly release?
Open the Windows: Refresh Your Environment & Routine
Sometimes, you don’t need a whole life overhaul - you just need fresh air.
Your surroundings and daily rhythms hold energy. Whether you live in Laventille, St. Ann’s, Bim or Brooklyn - your environment matters. A cluttered space often reflects a cluttered mind.
Let the sunshine in!
Open a window. Shake out the curtains. Diffuse a scent that uplifts you - lemongrass, peppermint or bay leaf oil if you have it.
Then take inventory:
What in your space feels heavy or outdated?
What routines feel draining instead of nourishing?
Even small shifts count:
Start your day with water and silence.
Remove social media apps for a week.
Add one ritual that brings you joy - dancing, journaling, barefoot walks.
Spring cleaning is about alignment, not perfection. You’re creating space for the life you actually want to live, not the one that’s on autopilot.
Dust Off Your Dreams: Reconnect with What Matters
There’s a dream in you that’s been whispering for a while now. Maybe you’ve ignored it because you’re too busy surviving. Or maybe shame convinced you that you’re too old, too late, or too far gone.
But reinvention requires remembering.
Like that forgotten item in the back of the cupboard, your dreams deserve to be seen again.
Your creativity. Your joy. Your sense of possibility.
Ask yourself:
What part of me have I abandoned to keep the peace?
What brings me back to life, even in small doses?
Who am I becoming?
Try this: Make a “someday” list - all the things you once wanted to try, learn or become. Then choose one to explore this month. Book the class. Make the call. Try the thing.
You don’t need a five-year plan. You just need a spark.
Reinvention Begins With Release
You don’t have to burn everything down.
You don’t have to move to a new country, quit your job or change your name (unless you want to).
Sometimes, the most powerful transformation begins with simply letting go.
Letting go of shame.
Letting go of shoulds.
Letting go of survival mode.
Spring is here. Let this be the season you clear the cobwebs, open the windows and choose yourself again.
Try this 3-step ritual:
Clear - Journal or speak aloud one thing you’re ready to release
Cleanse - Light a candle or take a salt bath
Call in - Write a simple affirmation or intention for who you’re becoming
Journalling Question: “What am I ready to release and what part of me is asking to rise?”
Affirmation: “I clear space for joy, clarity and alignment. I am safe to grow and evolve.”
